Data source: Rate schedules come from the OpenEI Utility Rate Database (URDB), maintained by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Our database contains 52,000+ real utility rate schedules covering 2,800+ US utilities.
Bill calculation:For each rate plan, we compute the exact monthly cost using the plan's published tier structure, fixed charges, and your specified usage. TOU (time-of-use) plans use a weighted split of peak/off-peak hours.
Utility matching: We use the NREL Utility Rates API to identify which utilities serve your zip code, then match them against our URDB data to find all available rate schedules.
Limitations: Some rate plans may include demand charges, rider fees, or seasonal adjustments not fully captured in the URDB data. Actual bills may vary. Deregulated markets (parts of Texas, Ohio, etc.) may show limited results.
